Edward E. Leineweber is an honors graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he was an Editor of the Wisconsin Law Review. Now, mostly retired from the legal profession, Ed focuses his limited practice in Alternative Dispute Resolution, including Mediation, and serving as a Special Master appointed by circuit courts to resolve discovery disputes and also to manage discovery of Electronically Stored Information (ESI). He serves as a reserve judge and a Wisconsin Supreme Court referee in attorney disciplinary matters. (Click on the Practice Areas menu tab for details.)
Originally from Chicago, Ed has lived in rural Richland County since 1973. He maintained a very active general practice for over 20 years before being elected to the Circuit Court in 1997. Ed retired from the bench after 14 years in June 2011, and returned to private practice, first of counsel to Bell, Moore & Richter, S.C., and later in his solo practice, Leineweber Law LLC.
A pilot for nearly 40 years, aircraft owner, Certified Flight Instructor, former Fixed Base Operator, licensed aviation maintenance technician, airport manager, Wisconsin FAA Safety Team member and successful self-employed entrepreneur before becoming a judge, Ed is experienced in most aspects of general aviation.
Given his experience of more than 40 years in the courts, including as a private lawyer, District Attorney, municipal City Attorney and later as a judge, Ed is comfortable mediating virtually any type of civil dispute.
Law related activities while an active judge included the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s Policy and Planning Advisory Committee and the Wisconsin Judicial Council. Leineweber served as a member of the boards of the Wisconsin Access to Justice Commission and the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation. He co-founded Court & Community, Inc., a non-profit organization in Richland County operating a Free Legal Clinic, and served as its first president.
Ed Leineweber was a longtime contributing editor to Midwest Flyer Magazine and wrote the Grassroots and Recreational Flying column in addition to submitting occasional feature articles. He also wrote on aviation maintenance topics dealing with Light Sport Aircraft for other aviation publications.
He enjoys working in his shop at the airport on aircraft restorations, as well as reading, traveling, enjoying the outdoors biking, camping and hiking, and spending time with family and friends. He is married to Joy, a retired elementary school teacher.
